Welcome to the Tuolumne-Stanislaus Integrated Regional Water Management (TSTAN IRWM) website. We’re excited to share updates on the IRWM Plan Update, our work under the WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Grant, and opportunities for stakeholders to get involved in shaping the future of water management in our region.
IRWM Plan Update
The Tuolumne-Stanislaus IRWM Plan is currently being updated to reflect evolving priorities, community needs, and the latest data on water resources in our region. This update ensures our region stays eligible for future state and federal funding while improving how we manage water supply, ecosystem health, forest and fire resilience, and community sustainability.
The updated Plan will include:
- Refined goals and objectives
- Climate change adaptation strategies
- System Modeling of Climate Change Impacts in the TSTAN Watershed
- Groundwater and surface water coordination
- Tribal and disadvantaged community engagement
📣 Stakeholder Survey – We Want to Hear From Your Organization!
Your organization’s input is vital to the success of the IRWM Plan Update and watershed collaboration efforts. We’re conducting two separate **Stakeholder Surveys** to gather feedback on your water-related concerns, priorities, and ideas for the region.

The survey results will directly inform project development, funding priorities, and long-term strategies for the Tuolumne-Stanislaus region.
WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Grant
TSTAN IRWM has received funding through the **Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Program**. This grant supports collaborative watershed planning efforts across the Tuolumne-Stanislaus region.
Through this funding, we are:
– Enhancing regional collaboration among diverse water users and land managers
– Conducting watershed health assessments
– Identifying and prioritizing restoration projects
– Expanding stakeholder engagement, especially in underserved communities
– Building capacity for long-term watershed stewardship
This grant marks a significant step forward in implementing integrated solutions for watershed health, wildfire resilience, and sustainable water supply.
About the Tuolumne-Stanislaus Watershed
The Tuolumne-Stanislaus IRWM region spans a diverse and critical watershed located in the central Sierra Nevada. This region includes headwaters that provide drinking water to millions, habitat for wildlife, and economic resources for agriculture, recreation, and forestry.
The watershed is home to:
– The upper Tuolumne and Stanislaus rivers
– National forests, including Stanislaus National Forest
– Several communities and Tribal lands
– Disadvantaged and underrepresented populations
Our region faces challenges such as wildfire risk, drought, and aging water infrastructure. TSTAN IRWM brings together regional partners to address these complex issues collaboratively.
